Since I was 10 I have been going to work with my dad. Down the road is a panel beater run by David Barker. Dad introduced me and I would always want to be there because he had some pretty awesome cars come in and out of the shop. I really like cars. I soon started helping Dave at the shop, detailing, sanding, painting, washing amongst other things. I loved spending time there. When I found out that Dave had cancer for the 3rd time I was gutted, annoyed and thought to myself ‘not again’.
This year at school we are doing a project called ‘Learning Journeys’, where we have to work on a community centred project. I’ve always dreamed of creating my own Go-Kart and when Dad told me his friend had an old Go-Kart frame, my idea emerged : I would restore the kart to its full potential together with Dave and we would use this as the basis of the fundraising campaign for Lymphoma Australia.
I see this as a great way to have some fun with Dave and make a difference by raising awareness at the same time. Dave doesn’t deserve what is happening to him or anyone else that has it. All I want is for my efforts to help take just even one step closer to making a cure for people like Dave who have Lymphoma Cancer.
